PROBLEM
Internet Explorer won't display any
web sites.
CAUSE
This could be caused by a number of
different things. See below for a list of possible solutions.
SOLUTION
- Check to make sure that the modem
has connected to the ISP.
- Check to see if IE is set to work
offline. Click on the file menu and see if there is a tick next to
'work offline'. If there is then remove the tick.
- Check various different web sites.
If you can see some but not others then it could be that some of the
sites are down or they need a plug-in such as shockwave in order to
view them.
- Check Internet Options >
Connection tab > Highlight the connection for your ISP then click
on the Settings button > make sure proxy server is disabled.
- Check Internet Options >
Connection tab > Click on LAN Settings > make
sure proxy server is disabled.
- Check Security and Content Advisor
settings in Internet Options. Try setting them all to low and try
viewing the pages again.
- Check Control Panel > Network
> Configuration Tab > WINS Configuration > put a dot next
to Disable WINS Resolution > Click OK and then restart the
computer.
- Check network components and DUN
settings are all correct. Try removing and re-installing all network
components. You may need your Windows CD for
this task!
- Re-install Communications. Go to
Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Windows Setup. Untick
Communications then click APPLY, if prompted to restart Windows -
DON'T!! Go back onto Windows Setup and re-tick Communications
then click APPLY. When prompted to restart Windows, you must now do
so. You may need your Windows CD for this
task!
